Driver Who Crashed Into LA Bus Before Helicopter Crash Charged With Murder

Los Angeles County prosecutors have filed a murder charge against 42‑year‑old Michael Torres, the driver of a delivery van that collided with a Metro bus on Sunset Boulevard on June 12. The crash caused a chain‑reaction accident that led to a news‑crew helicopter losing control and crashing, killing the pilot and a passenger. Investigators determined that Torres was driving under the influence and ignored multiple traffic signals, directly contributing to the fatal sequence of events. If convicted, Torres faces up to life imprisonment under California’s felony murder statutes.
