The House That Waits for Its Roof Has Not Failed, Residents Say

In the suburb of Kira, a modest two‑storey home that has stood for over 30 years without a completed roof is becoming a symbol of community resilience. The owners, the Nabbas, began construction in 1993 but have been unable to finish the roof due to financial setbacks and fluctuating material costs. Neighbours have rallied to support the family, organizing fund‑raising drives and donating building supplies. “The house may be unfinished, but it hasn’t failed us,” said local councilor Grace Akello. The story has sparked a broader conversation about affordable housing and the need for flexible financing options for low‑income families in Uganda.
