Former Koboko Speaker George Ambe Dies After 16 Days in ICU

George Ambe, the former speaker of Uganda’s Koboko District Council, passed away on Tuesday at the age of 68, following a 16‑day stay in intensive care at St. Mary’s Hospital in Arua. Ambe, who served as speaker from 2011 to 2016, was admitted after suffering a severe stroke that left him partially paralyzed. Colleagues and community leaders attended his funeral, describing him as a “dedicated public servant” who championed infrastructure projects and education initiatives in the border district. President Yoweri Museveni sent a condolence message, noting Ambe’s contributions to regional peace and development. The family has requested privacy as they arrange for burial rites in accordance with local customs.
