UPC Backs Ganyegenya Road Operation, Calls for a Comprehensive National Transport Plan

The Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) publicly endorsed the government’s Ganyegenya road rehabilitation project on Wednesday, describing it as a “critical step toward improving connectivity in the western region.” The party’s spokesperson, Hon. Sarah Nanyonga, praised the allocation of UGX 150 billion for resurfacing the 45‑kilometre stretch linking Ganyegenya to the Mbarara‑Kikagati corridor. While welcoming the initiative, UPC leaders urged the Ministry of Works and Transport to develop a broader, long‑term national transport strategy that integrates road, rail, and waterways to reduce congestion and boost trade. The party also called for transparent tender processes and community involvement to ensure the project’s sustainability.
