The Uganda National Lotteries Board (UNLB) announced today that a joint operation with the Greater Katonga Police Command resulted in the seizure of 123 unlicensed gaming machines. The raid, part of a six‑month crackdown on illegal gambling, uncovered devices hidden in bars, lodges and private residences across the Katonga region. Board officials said the machines were operating without the required permits and were siphoning an estimated UGX 4.2 billion in revenue that should have gone to public coffers. Owners of the confiscated equipment face fines up to UGX 200 million and possible criminal charges. The UNLB urged the public to report suspicious gambling activities and reiterated its commitment to protect legitimate lottery revenues that fund health and education projects.
