PAU Appoints Michael Ochan Acting Executive Director as Ernest Rubondo Exits

Nairobi – The Petroleum Authority of Uganda (PAU) announced on Monday that Michael Ochan will serve as Acting Executive Director following the resignation of long‑time chief Ernest Rubondo. Rubondo, who led the agency for eight years, stepped down to pursue a consultancy role with an international energy firm. Ochan, previously the Authority’s Director of Operations, is credited with spearheading the rollout of the country’s first digital oil‑field monitoring system. In his interim capacity, Ochan will oversee the finalisation of the new upstream licensing framework and the ongoing negotiations for a regional gas pipeline. The PAU board said a permanent appointment will be made after a transparent recruitment process later this year.
