Gulu, Northern Uganda – Prominent politician and former minister James Oryek has reportedly been living in constant fear after allegedly stashing large sums of cash on his family’s farm in Amuru District. Sources close to the politician claim that the cash, believed to be the proceeds of undisclosed business dealings, is hidden in underground caches beneath the farm’s barns. Oryek, who has faced multiple corruption investigations, is said to have increased security around his property, employing private guards and limiting visits. Human rights groups warn that the situation reflects a broader culture of impunity among Uganda’s elite, where illicit wealth is often concealed in rural strongholds to avoid detection by anti‑corruption agencies.
