Washington, D.C. – Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent is slated to announce a fresh slate of economic sanctions against Iran on Thursday, focusing on the nation’s oil export infrastructure, shipping networks, and key financial institutions linked to the Revolutionary Guard. The move comes after Tehran’s continued support for proxy groups in the Middle East and alleged violations of the 2015 nuclear agreement. In a prepared statement, Bessent said the sanctions are designed to “cut off the lifelines that fund destabilizing activities while leaving humanitarian assistance untouched.” The announcement is expected to be coordinated with allied partners in Europe and the Gulf.
