Uganda’s most prominent businessman, Sudhir Ruparelia, has publicly expressed his deep sympathy for the victims of the recent catastrophic floods in Nepal. In a statement released on Tuesday, Ruparelia said the disaster “has touched the hearts of all Ugandans” and announced that his conglomerate, the Ruparelia Group, will mobilise emergency supplies, including food, clean water, and temporary shelter kits, to be dispatched within the next 48 hours. He also called on other private sector leaders in East Africa to join a coordinated relief effort, emphasizing that regional cooperation can accelerate recovery. The Nepali government has welcomed the gesture, noting that international private‑sector contributions are crucial as the country grapples with displaced families, damaged infrastructure, and a looming risk of disease outbreaks.
