Ugandan business magnate Sudhir Ruparelia announced today that he will be mobilising a humanitarian aid package for Nepal following the worst floods the country has seen in a decade. In a statement released from his Kampala office, Ruparelia said, “Our hearts go out to the families who have lost homes, livelihoods and loved ones. We stand in solidarity with the Nepali people and will work with local NGOs to deliver food, clean water, medical supplies and temporary shelters.” The aid package, valued at roughly $2 million, will be coordinated through the Red Cross and the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA). Ruparelia also called on other East African entrepreneurs to join the effort, emphasizing the importance of regional cooperation in disaster response.
