The Uganda Packaging and Processing Company (UPPC) announced today that it has successfully obtained ISO 9001:2015 certification for its quality management system, becoming the first packaging firm in the region to meet the international standard. The certification, granted by the International Certification Body (ICB), confirms that UPPC’s processes—from raw‑material sourcing to final product delivery—meet rigorous quality, safety, and continuous‑improvement criteria. “This milestone validates our commitment to excellence and positions us to compete on the global stage,” said Managing Director Samuel Kato. UPPC plans to leverage the certification to enter new markets in East Africa, the Middle East, and Europe, targeting export contracts for biodegradable packaging solutions. The company also announced a $5 million investment in upgraded production lines and staff training to sustain the high standards required by international buyers.
