URA Chief Praises Tycoon Sudhir While Urging Landlords to Boost Rental Tax Compliance

In a press conference held in Kampala, the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) chairman lauded industrialist Sudhir Patel—commonly known as “Tycoon Sudhir”—for his recent initiative to modernise rental tax collection in the capital. Patel’s partnership with URA has introduced a digital platform that simplifies the filing of rental income for landlords. The URA chief used the occasion to call on all property owners to adopt the new system and improve compliance, warning that persistent under‑reporting could lead to stricter audits and penalties. The announcement comes as the government seeks to raise an additional UGX 2 billion in property taxes this fiscal year.
