The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) announced the immediate suspension of all joint training exercises, equipment transfers, and advisory missions with the Turkish Armed Forces. The decision follows a series of diplomatic tensions after Uganda’s parliament rejected a proposed defense‑technology agreement with Turkey, citing concerns over sovereignty and transparency. Defence Minister James Okwir stated that the suspension is “temporary” and will be reviewed once a mutually acceptable framework is established. Ankara’s embassy in Kampala issued a statement expressing disappointment but reaffirmed its willingness to continue dialogue.
